18th C Antique Queen Anne Boston Mahogany Corner Chair / Roundabout Chair
With our highest compliments and utmost honors, Bay Colony Antiques is extremely proud to offer for sale this fantastic 18th century antique Queen Anne Mahogany corner chair. Often referred to as roundabout chairs, they were extremely desirable in the 18th century and were often used at desks because they’re very comfortable and the arms can fit under the lid of a slant lid desk. The chair has a round seat box and is nice and sturdy with an x shaped stretcher below. The chair is made from the absolute best grade of imported Caribbean Mahogany that’s very dense and quite heavy. The chair has a curved crest rail with lamb tongue ends & was probably made in or around Boston. The arms have circular arm rests, and the crest rail is supported by 3 columnar stiles and 8 reed carved slats. The simplest designed corner chairs were made from local Timbers & usually had square seat boxes with simple turned legs. The most sophisticated examples were almost always made from Mahogany and had
