19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE NEW ENGLAND SHAKER MAPLE STEP BACK CABINET / CUPBOARD With our highest compliments & honors we're proud to offer for sale this absolutely wonderful 19th century antique Shaker maple cabinet. We're fortunate to have a few great protected Shaker villages in our area and they were a fascinating group. Shakers originated from a division in the Quaker group. Shakers were ridiculed in England and called the derogatory term "Shaking Quaker" which eventually shortened to Shaker. The Shakers emigrated to America & established many successful communities. Shaker villages were above all self sufficient & they aimed to live a good, honest, simple, god fearing life. Shaker furniture is not heavily decorated with carvings, imported veneers, or brass hardware. Furniture was designed to be practical, utilitarian & naturalistic.
