This is undoubtedly a Massachusetts table and is exemplary of the preeminent designs that were popular in Boston & the North Shore of Massachusetts during the late 18th century & early 19th century. The rope carved legs were well executed and were especially popular in & around Boston by prominent families who made their wealth at sea or by maritime trade. The top two drawers showcase concurrent cuts of crotch mahogany veneer creating a nice visual effect where the grain continues across the two drawers. The bottom drawer originally housed a sewing bag, but like many of these the silk bag has been lost to time and the third drawer was fitted with a panel.
