Antique Chinese Puppet Head of a Beauty circa 1900

A hand-carved wooden puppet head of a young woman with human hair was made by folk artists in the 19th century. A single block of wood has been carved out by hand to form a female puppet head. You can see carved marks on the base. The head is covered in human hair and is attached by metal staples to the head top. The painting is finely done. There is a hole at the base to attach to the puppet’s body.   MEASUREMENTS 6 3/8”(16.2 cm) tall x 3 ½” (8.9 cm) deep x 3 ½” (8.9 cm) wide. Weighs 10.0 oz (285 g)   CONDITION   There are paint losses on the head. There is a wood crack behind one ear. There are no chips or breaks. The piece is old and shows wear. It still looks good for the age.    A wonderful, old, work of the folk artist. It stands alone as a folk sculpture.
