Chinese Embroidered Collar Late Qing/Republic
A hand made collar with tiny intricate appliques and small inset jewels. It would have been tied around the neck to hide and decorate the top of the garment. The collar has been made from a quilted cloth has been covered with tiny embroideries of birds, flowers, butterflies, and trees. The embroideries are very colorful with border appliques. At both ends are attachments for a loop and a pair of string ties. The back feels like a cotton material. MEASUREMENTS 21 1/4” (54 cm) long with ties. 16” (40.6 cm) long x 2 5/8” (6.7 cm) wide for the collar only. Weighs 1.9 oz (30 g) CONDITION The embroidered threads are tight and the colors are good. There is some wear to the beige silk background, the stitched borders and on the back. There is staining especially to the loop and ties, and approximately 3” (7.6 cm) of the end of one of the ties is missing. An interesting handmade collar from China that will add to a fabric or Chinese clothing collection.
