Chinese Enameled Metal Bowl Late Qing/Republic Period
A good sized and colorful, classically shaped Chinese metal bowl that shows much hand work. The exterior of the medium-sized metal bowl has enameled designs of garden scenes in a mandarin's household. The designs are tooled into the metal and then enameled. The inside of the bowl is also enameled, and you can see the outline of the designs under the enamel inside of the bowl. The designs are painted in turquoise, purple, light and dark blue enamels and the metal has taken on a dark blackish patina. The foot is shallow and raised. The word CHINA has been stamped into the metal in the center of the base and then covered with enamels. MEASUREMENTS 6 ½” (16.5 cm) diameter x 2 1/8” (5.4 cm) tall. Weighs 9.6 oz (275 g) CONDITION In the interior is a concussion mark which is a dark color. There is also a patch of enamel loss near the rim that someone has tried to patch.
