Chinese Enameled Metal Box Republic Period Circa 1930

An intricate, hands-on, colorful hinged box to add to a collection or use to decorate the home. The heavy brass box has a silver (colored) patina and has been enameled in turquoise, cobalt, and aubergine enamels in a scrolling peony design. You can see the golden color of the brass coming through the silver. The box has a simple pin hinge. The box rests flat on a surface with its bun feet. I believe the coating is silver plate because it polished up nicely, but I am not certain. It has the mark MADE IN CHINA on the center of the base. MEASUREMENTS 4 3/8” wide x 3 ¼” (8.3 cm) deep x 1 7/8” (4.8 cm) tall. Weighs 12.0 oz (340 g) CONDITION There is wear to both the silver colored patina, as well as to some of the turquoise enamels. The hinge is bent, which prevents the lid from closing snugly. It also wiggles a little. There is wear and a few black spots inside the box. A great Chinese box to add to a collection or use to store little knick-knacks.
