Chinese Hardstone Butterfly Ornament Late Qing/Republic

A thinly carved and pierced pale green hardstone in the shape of a butterfly that very decorative and has some age. The pale green hardstone has minute piercings and was hand polished to a nice soft finish. The stone is well carved, has few inclusions and a nice translucence. We believe the hardstone is Xiu Yu /serpentine. While it resembles jade, it is not as heavy as jade would be. The piece was likely intended as an ornament on fabric or a box because the back is not polished as nicely as the front. MEASUREMENTS 2 11/16" (69 mm) wide x 1 9/16" (41 mm) tall x approximately 2 mm thick. Weighs 32 oz (9.1 g) CONDITION There are no breaks, chips or cracks.
