Chinese Rosewood and Hardstone 3 Piece Box Republic Period

A 3-piece rosewood box with a hardstone bird and flower medallion inset in the lid. The three pieces are lid, box, and stand. The stand has scroll feet and carved holes to receive the feet of the box. The rectangular box has rounded edges, short feet, and a flange to hold a matching stepped lid. All three have been constructed from a dense dark red rosewood with a rich, glossy finish. You can see the lighter colored bare red wood in the feet and areas that are worn. The hardstone medallion is a brownish color, pierced and carved to depict two birds in a flowering tree. MEASUREMENTS5 ¾” (14.6 cm) wide x 4 ¼” (10.8 cm) wide x 3 7/8” (.8 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 5.7 oz (615 g)CONDITIONThere is a fine crack in the lid that is mostly visible from the underside. There are no other cracks. There is wear along the edge near the mouth, the corners of the lid, and where the legs of the box fit into the base.A great, rich-looking box to hold your valuables or your keys.
