Chinese Polychrome Porcelain Sauce Dish Republic Period

A small, delicately painted porcelain dish with a design of a butterfly surrounded by trailing flowering vines. The painting shows shading.   The shallow raised foot is unglazed and the base is glazed. The clay is white and refined. There is a mark in Chinese characters within a circle on the base that is very faint.   MEASUREMENTS   4” (10.2 cm) diameter x 1” (2.5 cm) tall. Weighs 2.5 oz (75 g)   CONDITION   There are no cracks, chips, repairs or breaks. Most enamels are still bright, although there is some wear to the black outlining and the bright green plant tendrils.   A very pretty small dish that could be part of a grouping or to use as a sauce dish.
