A large hand potted 19th C Chinese jar that hasn’t changed much from Henan Ware from the Song Dynasty.   The glaze on the hand-thrown stoneware is a thick almost-black glaze with some brown and blue flecks showing. The glaze flows down the jar almost to the base and has pooled. You can see the potter’s wheel marks, as well as the ridges from the construction of the sides of the jar.   The foot is cut flat and very shallow. Both the foot and the base are unglazed; however, the foot has some glaze adhering to it. The clay is a dark brown color and feels soft on the foot. There are two loop handles on each side.   There are no marks or labels, but it has a tiny remnant of the red wax export seal on the shoulder.   MEASUREMENTS   7 ¼” (18.4 cm) diameter x 8 ½” (17.5 cm) tall. Weighs 4 lbs 9.2 oz (2075 g)   CONDITION   There are no cracks, chips, breaks, or repairs.
