Chinese Silk Door Hanging 19th Century
A very old silk and embroidery door frame hanging with much hand work and color. I love all of the gold thread. A blue silk has a myriad of Daoist symbols, a lotus, and peony flowers embroidered using couched gold thread. These designs are hand-done, tight and show much detail. The embroideries are framed with a patterned brown brocade. The blue silk was attached to a pinkish-red fabric that feels like a polished silk MEASUREMENTS 36 ½” Long x 10” Tall. Weighs 2.1 oz (45 g) CONDITION The hanging has many damages. The blue silk background is falling apart in several areas and one area was replaced with a red patch. The brocade is separated from the backing in many spots, but is largely intact. The gold threads have fared better, but some threads are loose, especially where the blue silk has disintegrated. An old hand made piece of Chinese silk with tight embroideries and strong symbolism.
