A fun tea caddy from the Victorian period when romantic scenes from the “Far East” were in vogue. A lightweight ceramic has had a transfer applied at firing. The design is of a Japanese family in a garden with a boat in the distance. There are lotus borders at the top and above the foot. The foot is very shallow and partially glazed. The body glaze has a fine crackle. The decoration is in a dark cobalt blue. The base is glazed. There is a series of 6 cartouches on the base with words BOTTMS, SILICON, CHINA , MING, MADE, ENGLAND. MEASUREMENTS 3 ¼” (8.3 cm) diameter x 5 ¼” (13.3 cm) tall. Weighs 7.1 oz (205 g) CONDITION There are no breaks, cracks, or chips. There a couple of rough spots on the foot and blue spots on the body from manufacture. The piece is missing its lid. A fun tea caddy from England to add to a collection or store tea in.
