English Staffordshire Transferware Plate Rhine Pattern 19th Century
A medium blue transferware plate with a slightly scalloped edge and the design of boats on a river with castles in the background. The plate has been molded and has a crazed glaze that feels soft to the touch. The base has a shallow round foot with rings on the glazed base. A mark on the bases reads “Rhine” in a box with the manufacturer's mark E.B. & J.E.L. B. ENGLAND and the number 8. MEASUREMENTS9” (25.4 cm) diameter x 15/16” (2.4 cm) tall. Weighs 1 lb 1.0 oz (480 g) CONDITION The plate has two chip repairs on the underside by the rim. There are no cracks or breaks. There are wear scratches on the plate surface, as well as kiln flaws, such as bumps, pimple reserves, and blue dots. There are also a couple of brown stains on the base. A highly decorative plate to add to shabby chic or English cottage decors.
