English Staffordshire Transferware Child’s ABC Plate Fleurs 19th Century
A fun and colorful ABC plate that comes with a French lesson for the English child. Fleurs equals flowers. A molded ceramic plate with an off white glaze and a cavetto molded with the alphabet. The well has a transfer design of three girls. Two of the girls are trying to sell flowers to a girl of means. The words FLEURS and FLOWERS is below the picture. A molded mark in a cartouche on the glazed base reads JOHN PODMORE MANUFACTURER BURSLEM. MEASUREMENTS 6 1/8” (15.6 cm) diameter x ¾” (1.9 cm) tall. Weighs 7.0 oz (200 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The glaze shows crazing. There is some staining to the back and spots of wear on the blue shoulder wrap. There is also some wear or misses to the words “ Fleurs … Flowers” on the transfer.” There are manufacture flaws, such as glaze spots and pin holes on the back.
