
European Chinoiserie Porcelain Teacup 18th Century
The light, thin, translucent, porcelain teacup has been exquisitely painted with a design of a floral wreath on the outer edge and a parrot with flowers and fruit in the central well, and a delicate toothed inner edge border. The painting is very fine with excellent accuracy and line quality. There is good detail in the painting and shading in the flower petals. The teacup is in the Chinese style with no handle. It has a raised unglazed foot and a glazed base. Based on the style of the birds and flowers, we believe the cup was potted in China and then decorated in England. It might have been decorated elsewhere in Europe, particularly Germany or even potentially France. MEASUREMENTS 3 ¼” (8.3 cm) diameter x 1 5/8” (4.1 cm) tall. Weighs 2.3 oz (65 g) CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks, and the teacup rings true. The glazes are fresh and bright.
