A large Japanese bronze vase with an embossed gold colored chrysanthemum and butterfly design that has a subtlety and understated elegance. An ovoid shaped heavy bronze metal vase with a small round mouth and a matching round base. The vase has a dark, shiny, smooth brown patina. The color of the inside matches the outside. There are two gold-colored roundels with embossed designs of a chrysanthemum flower and a butterfly. The designs have a dark antiqued line quality.   There are Japanese characters on the base.   MEASUREMENTS 10 ½” (26.7 cm) tall x 4 ½” (11.4 cm) diameter. Weighs 2 lb 11.4 oz (1230 g)   CONDITION   The patina on the vase has wear scratches. The lip has a few nicks and an unevenness. The foot has a dent on one side; but the vase still stands flat and straight. The gold roundels have a few black spots and tool marks on the edge. There a couple of drip marks under the butterfly.    A large decorative vase with a lovely contrast of smooth and raised texture.
