A very colorful Japanese foliate-rimmed bowl painted with a detailed scene of a boat with a passenger and oarsman passing by an old willow with birds flying and clouds in the air. This central design is then surrounded by alternating polychrome fabric designs around the cavetto. Gilding is used as an accent over both the cobalt and enamels. The foot is raised, rounded, and unglazed. The base is glazed. The outer bowl is very well painted with a scrolling floral design and rings above the foot. The bowl is unmarked. MEASUREMENTS 6” (15.2 cm) diameter x 2” (5.1 cm) tall. Weighs 10.5 oz (300 g) CONDITION There are no cracks or breaks and the bowl rings true. There is a small chip on the mouth rim. There is wear to the gilding, but otherwise the glazes are still bright and entire looking. A colorful, intricate Japanese bowl with such minute painting. It has very rich look.
