Japanese Imari Plate with Kirin 19th Century
A hand painted porcelain plate with a cobalt under glaze painting of a kirin surrounded by prunus branches in bloom. The hand painting is very professional and the Kirin, in particular, shows much fluidity. The molded plate has a scalloped edge and a shallow rounded white paste foot. There is a spur mark in the center of the glazed base. The cobalt is a nice deep blue and contrasts well with the whiteness of the glaze. MEASUREMENTS 7 1/8” (18.1 cm) diameter x 1 1/8” (2.9 cm) deep. Weighs 10.8 oz (300 g) CONDITION There are no breaks, chips, cracks, or repairs. The plate has light wear in the well, but the glazes are bright and fresh. There are kiln flaws, such as black spots and pin holes. A very decorative plate to add age and richness to your blue and white display.
