Essential OilBotanical: Piper elongatumHarvest: Sustainably wildcraftedPlant Part: Leaf & flowerSource: Andean Mountains, PeruExtraction: Steam distillation, Stainless steelSips of mountain air slow the breath and widen consciousness.A dash of pepper calls forth wildness and clarity from on high. Piper elongatum belongs to the Piperaceae or pepper family. Commonly called Matico or Moqo Moqo, this tropical evergreen is native to forests in Bolivia and Peru at elevations of 3,200 to 9,200 feet. Like many plants in the pepper family, most parts of the Matico tree have an aromatic, spicy aroma. The Spanish name comes from a South American legend. It is said that the plant was discovered by a wounded Spanish soldier named Matico, who learned from the natives that applying the leaves to his wounds stopped them from bleeding. Thus it began to be called "Matico" or "soldier’s tree." This is a unique and rare essential oil, sustainably wild harvested and distilled by a community in Peru. Its scent is clean and crisp to the nose like a breath of fresh Andean air, smooth and cool with subtle undertones of eucalyptus, mint, and a dash of white peppercorns. We work closely with the community and have intentions for a larger distillation next season. UsageIn various regions of Peru and Bolivia, Matico has traditionally been prescribed in the form of inhalations, compresses, poultices, and steam baths for respiratory ailments, digestive support, and muscle pain. Bio Alchemy Olfactive Matico can be enjoyed in a diffuser, diluted in carrier oils and applied topically to the skin, or simply inhaled throughout the day. 5ml
