This is a large species found in Southern Great Britain, Belgium, Italy, and the Atlantic and Southern coasts of France. They are commonly found in human-disturbed habitats within towns, and sometimes even inside homes. This species is heavily synanthropic and is very similar in appearance to Armadillidium vulgare, but can be distinguished by its raised scutellum and the curved-out edges of the pleon. This species is known for its prolific breeding and ease of cultivation. Like all Armadillidiidae, they can roll into a ball when disturbed. They prefer drier conditions and higher ventilation, much like other European Armadillidium species.
