This is a large-sized species from the Adriatic coast of Italy, the Aegean Islands of Thásos and Lésvos, and the coast of the Sea of Marmara in Turkey. The individual coloration of this species can range from a blackish grey to a whitish silver-grey, and some even have a purple hue to them. The tergites of this species are heavily tuberculated, giving them a rough, bumpy appearance that can be easily seen without magnification. This species is known for its prolific breeding and ease of cultivation. Like all Armadillidiidae, they can roll into a ball when disturbed. They prefer drier conditions and higher ventilation, much like other European Armadillidium species.
