Genuine Manuka Honey from New Zealand is made by bees that collect nectar from the Manuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium) and is renowned worldwide for its beneficial properties. Authentic Manuka Honey is rated through several different and complex systems, including NPA (Non-Peroxide Activity) and MGO (Methylglyoxal). Testing processes measures all three signature compounds, Leptosperin, DHA, and Methylglyoxal (MGO).  The renowned antibacterial health properties of Manuka honey are believed to be more potent, concentrated, and potentially more effective when the NPA number is higher; the higher the MGO is as well.  The MGO rating system identifies a single compound, Methylglyoxal, and was developed by a university professor. Manuka honey comes in a range of MGO ratings.
