Antique Blue Guilloche Enamel Silver Cufflinks
These antique silver cufflinks are embellished with blue translucent enamel, with small beaded detail. The cufflinks are hallmarked STERLING. Guilloché, a decorative technique on gold and silver, gained widespread popularity in the mid to late 19th century and reached its height between 1880 and 1930 with the popularity of cuff links or buttons, pens, pen knives, and lockets created in America at that same time. Renowned jeweler Fabergé (1846-1920) extensively incorporated Guilloché as a backdrop for his transparent enamel work. This process created an exceptional optical play-of-light still being duplicated today by watchmakers and jewelers who work to understand this historical and technical process.
