Golden Club, Orontium aquaticum, is a curious and charming bright yellow flowered, early Spring blooming, Bog Plant with flowers that resemble warty finger tips. They are actually the spadix or female ovary of the flower, similar to Jack-in-the-Pulpit. Leaves are velvety dark bluish green, pointed ovals, and shed water. Seeds and rhizomes are starchy and edible. It prefers growing along the edges of acid waters in consistently wet, peaty soils in full sun, but will tolerate shade. O. aquaticum is the only species in this monotypic genus, as is the Venus Flytrap and Cephalotus. This is a striking and very showy plant providing early Spring color.
