The Heart’s Voyage

I photographed this image during one of many unforgettable trips out on the ocean off the coast of Lisbon, Portugal. Normally, we were looking for birds, dolphins, whales, and other marine animals, but on this particular trip, we kept coming across balloons. It looked like a balloon bouquet had escaped and drifted out to sea. Balloons are very dangerous to wildlife, they mistake them for food, and we picked them up as we came across them. Most were torn or deflated, but then we came across this perfect heart-shaped balloon floating there all alone. It was such a surreal scene, I had to take a few pictures before we took it out of the water.
