Honyama has a long history as an important tea growing region in Japan, going back to the very beginning of the Edo period, when it's said that the shogun Tokugawa favored the tea there. Harumoegi is an aromatic cultivar that lends itself to light-steaming. This sencha brews to a glowing, straw-gold color and has an aroma filled with pineapple and tropical fruit. It has a chestnut-like sweetness, and an overall elegant presence. The grower, Saito-san, is local legend.
