Early in his life, he recognized his talent and love for art and determined he would make it his future. With the help of a teacher who helped finance his art lessons, he began the study which has helped him become a fine-expressive artist. Through pains-taking, time-consuming work, he has created memorable paintings.   Smith has often been compared to Monet. He compared art to music. He felt that they are akin, only communication in a different form. He remarked, "The world is looking for this communication.
