The old village shops inspired this painting of the Williamsburg Bootery.  Charles Roy Smith was born in February 1922 in Wadesboro, North Carolina. Early in his life, he recognized his talent and love for art and determined he would make it his future. With the help of a teacher who helped finance his art lessons, he began the study which has helped him become a fine-expressive artist. Through pains-taking, time-consuming work, he has created memorable paintings.   Smith has often been compared to Monet. He compared art to music. He felt that they are akin, only communication in a different form. He remarked, "The world is looking for this communication. A painting that does not have to be explained, but simply portrays a beautiful feeling to which people can relate is communication. He was a man with strong ties to family and God. W
