Carved and Gilded Neoclassical Overmantel Looking Glass c. 1785

A very finely carved oval neoclassical overmantel looking glass, the frame carved with a bead and flutes interspersed with incised floral rosettes and bordered with a diminutive egg and dart, with carved floral enrichments of leaves, drapes, flowers and rocaille in the form of scrolls capped with a vase filled with fruit and flowers. Regilded and with a modern plate glass. Circa 1785 Ht.55”, Width 46”
