He is best known today, however, for the pictures he created for the first half-dozen of his twenty-five Scribner’s Illustrated Classics. The first was, of course, Treasure Island, whose illustrations NCW created in 1911. He followed this in 1913 with Kidnapped. He produced his illustrations for The Black Arrow in 1916.
