Each package contains 1 oz. kid mohair locks that are hand dyed by me. Beautiful, soft, and shiny locks from my Angora goats who live outside our home. Their names are Beauty, Maggie, Madam and Minnie! Bred from the famous Speck Ranch bloodlines, they are known for their exceptionally soft, ringlet fibers. Mohair comes from the Angora goat and is one of the oldest textile fibers in use. The name “Angora” comes from the city of Ankara in Turkey. Mohair goats are thought to originate in Tibet and reached Turkey in the 16th century. It is believed that Henry V brought the Angora goats to Europe. It eventually reached South Africa which now produces the highest percentage of Mohair in the world. The goats were introduced to the US in 1849. The United States produces the world’s best mohair and is now second in production with 90% of US Mohair being raised in the Texas which is home to about 200,000 goats!! Angora goats are usually sheared twice a year except in Turkey where they only shear
