Raku Turquoise Lighthouse

This lighthouse was made in 2 parts: the dome was wheel thrown and then attached to the separately thrown main cylinder. The railings and windows were carved out by hand. This piece is created by raku firing, in an intensely hot and oxygen-starved atmosphere. The clay and glazes are forced to create their own oxygen, resulting in the intense turquoise crackles on the main body and the moody rustic look of the dome.
