Mosaics with Embroidery Patterns Workshop (Guzman Saturday 2/7)

The goal of this class is to combine the elegance of fine embroidery thread with the natural beauty of stone and smalti. It is an attempt to reflect the beauty and fragility of the world around us through the most inflexible and rigid materials such as natural stone and smalti. A selection of embroidery designs will be provided during the class, but students are welcome to bring their own prints if they wish. Botanical designs can be found freely online, just search for free botanical embroidery patterns. Each participant will be provided with a choice of natural stone and smalti, a pair of nippers, adhesives and a wooden board to create a small masterpiece. Prior to the class, pattern samples may be sent to the instructor for a customized material selection, however this is optional.
