The Morrigan
The Morrigan is a Celtic deity ruling over war, sovereignty, prophecy, and magic. She is one of the more mysterious figures in Irish mythology and represents both life and death. Being a goddess of war, stories described the Morrigan appearing in the form of a crow, either flying over battlefields or picking at the remains of fallen soldiers. Some stories even claimed that she could be seen washing blood out of armor at nearby rivers, certainly a symbol of impending doom to come. Thus her name also means 'Phantom Queen' and even 'The Terrifying.' While there are many tales involving her vengeance and ruthlessness, there are some that tell of her generosity and compassion, even offering prophecy and favors to heroes and gods alike. In a popular folklore tale, she advised the Dagda (one of the Irish gods of strength and fertility) on how to defeat supernatural monsters known as the Fomorians.
