Regardless of the time of the year, the mosquitoes are out in force and looking for victims in the Florida Everglades! More important, the Everglades offer a solitude unlike any other place that I have photographed in Florida. When photographing the swamps and prairies of the Everglades, I feel I am truly out in the wild. Whether I am photographing sunrise or sunset, darkness occupies a significant amount of the time. When it's dark, the sounds of the inhabitants are more noticeable and accentuated; mysteriously, the wildlife cannot be seen.It's a bit of a drive from Miami to get to the entrance of the park but once there, quite a few miles remain to get to my favorite places. While searching for a sunrise shot, there is zero visibility on either side of me as I make the drive through the park; the sun is usually an hour and a half away from rising and it is pitch black. With no light pollution from any cities or towns, it is dark and I mean really dark! It is remote. It is void of peo
