From the Accademia Bridge, the Grand Canal stretched out before me—motionless and glowing in the early light. Warm hues of orange and gold filled the sky, while the soft glow of street lamps still illuminated the facades of the buildings. The water didn’t move. It felt like time temporarily stood still, just long enough to let me gaze in awe. I had walked through the dark, empty streets of Venice to get here. The silence was haunting in the best way. A city known for its life and rhythm offered me a moment of absolute stillness and solace. For this brief time, it felt as though Venice belonged only to me.
