Anne Wolf | Baldwin's Continuum
Artist: Anne WolfMaterials: Sterling silver, fine silver, copper, 18k trigold Dimensions: 5.5" x 2" x 2.25" Origin of featured materials: The central cup is mokume-gane fused and patterned by Phillip Baldwin. The other mokume-gane was fused by Baldwin, Earl Bushey, Mike Sakmar, and myself, and patterned by me. Story behind the piece: A 3" x 3" piece of Philip Baldwin's 'ladder' pattern mokume-gane came into my possession right around the time of his passing. This pattern is a technical marvel in that it is patterned on both sides. As soon as I saw it I wanted to make a sake cup with it, because I knew the pattern would distort beautifully as it was formed. In my mind the sake cup is for him, but also represents the huge contributions he made to the metals field generally and mokume gane specifically. The bridge-shaped stand represents time - past metalsmiths that inspired him, and the present and future metalsmiths that have been influenced by him. I'm really sad about his passing, b
