Ofada rice is a name for indigenous rice from a small community called Ofada in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.' The common white rice is brown rice that had gone through some changes in the milling process. With Ofada rice, only the husk is removed. White rice is polished and pre-cooked or parboiled. The bran is also removed. Ofada rice has a rough surface, more phosphorous, and fiber which helps in the reduction of the risk of bowel disorder and fighting constipation, and contains an appreciable amount of selenium which has been found to be effective in fighting colon and breast cancer.
