Illuminate

Every photographer has that one shot that all the stars have to align just right for. In this case the ice rime caked Mt. Hood’s Illumination Rock perfectly, the snow filled in like I’d never seen it formed before, giving us the opportunity to build a unique jump. Moments before I shot this image a cloud was blocking the sun, but when the sun hit the rock, it initiated magic that none of us had ever seen before. Sammy Carlson dropped in and jumped his way into the history books. This photo landed on magazine covers distributed all the world over and was voted Powder Magazine’s 2012 Photo of the Year.
