Meet the Artisans Christiana Asare has been working for Global Mamas since 2012 as a seamstress. In 2016, she was able to send her youngest daughter, Belinda, to kindergarten. Christiana says: “It makes me very, very happy to see Belinda going to kindergarten.” Christiana’s twin boys are also in school. She hopes that all her children will be able to take their education further, and perhaps Belinda may even become a nurse one day. Born and raised in Cape Coast, Mavis Thompson’s story is one of renewed hope. She started batiking in 1989 and soon after opened her own shop called “Press on Towards the Goal.” After experiencing initial success, Mavis was forced to close her shop when a shrinking customer base made it impossible for her to afford the expensive batiking supplies she needed.
