Superstition Mountain 24x30 inches

This was my first landscape painting. While working on it, I learned a lot about how colors can be used to create depth and contrast. For example, cool purples, blues and greens were used in the background mountains and sky to make those areas of the painting recede. And, warm oranges, reds and green hues were used for the foreground shapes to bring them forward. It seems easy, but can be very complicated. I’m always learning with every new painting I make.
