About the Composition May Songs is a collection of four pieces for double bass and piano. The basic sketches for all four pieces date from a 90 minute brain storm on Mother's Day, 2016, hence the title May Songs. The first two, Morning Dance (Bulerias Nuevas) and Soleá are both based on traditional Flamenco song forms. Ballad is an expressive conversation between the bass and the piano and Capriccio is a light-hearted romp in mixed meter, primarily in seven. Watch more videos of the composition here. About the Composer Sidney King’s multi-faceted career as a double bassist spans over four decades. His extensive experience as an orchestral performer includes appearances with some of the most prestigious ensembles in the country. He has performed with the symphonies of Detroit, Cincinnati, Houston, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Buffalo, and Nashville, as well as with the Louisiana Philharmonic and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
