Dream Amethyst Sphere
Science & Origin of Amethyst Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz that has become one of the most popular and well-known crystals in the mineral kingdom. Amethyst gains its color from gamma irradiation and trace amounts of Iron. This crystal gained its name from the Greek word "Amethystos" which translates to "not intoxicated". This stone is given special names depending on its formation or locality, including Rwanda Amethyst and Chevron Amethyst . Most of the world's supply of Amethyst currently comes out of Brazil and Uruguay. Specimens in both these South American countries have been found as tall as small buildings and can sell for millions of dollars! Each year it seems as though a new Amethyst deposit is found in a faraway country. It's anyone's guess as to where the next discovery will be!
