Rare museum quality antique Victorian Egyptian revivalFrench 18K gold, enamel scarf ring C.1880.The ring represents intricate craftsmanshipwith various techniques such as carving, chasing, polychrome enamel.The background of enamel is textured with hand applied chasing.Hand painted enamel on the front depicts a pharaohin his official garment.It is possible the face was a custom miniature portraitof the person who ordered the ring.The back enamel masterfully renders a few springswith blue flowers and green leaves.The ring measures 3/4" or 20 mm diameter.It weighs 4.8 grams.There are no hallmarks, acid tested 18K gold.Excellent antique condition commensurate with age.Egyptian motifs widespread starting late 1700'safter Napoleon's military campaign in North Africa.They received another boost after excavationsand following tours to Egypt starting in 1830's.
