A Dark Horizon
Towering beasts once moved lithely through dense northern old growth. A balance persisted for millennia of cold winters and starry nights. Then, two centuries ago, came the mass cuttings and the killing fires. To these barren forests, new creatures arrived bringing with them new diseases and pests. As the world warmed around them they ate all the new growth; leaving none to mature. And the towering beasts of both antler and bough died or moved north toward an ever distant horizon.
