19th Century French Neoclassical Style Painted Bookcase
Imposing 19th century French library bookcase or cabinet featuring a weathered, painted finish. The two-part case is crafted in the Greco-Roman style with decorative pilaster columns on the front in the neoclassical taste. The upper cabinet is fronted by four large glass doors opening to a shelved interior. The doors are surmounted by a cornice molding on top with a decorative painted frieze having a greek key faded motif. The bottom cabinet measures approximately 34 inches high and is fronted by 2 pairs of storage doors flanked by pilaster style columns. The case has a worn painted finish with losses and paint remnants throughout the piece. Full of character and charm with original lock plate hardware and keys in patinated brass.
