Superb French Bronze Nude Bathing Woman Nymph Statue a. Etienne Maurice Falconet
Presented is a stunning antique bronze statue of a nude woman, dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s, after French sculptor Etienne Maurice Falconet's (1716-1791) “The Bather” or “Nymphe descendant au bain.” This piece dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s and is likewise also French, but unsigned. The bronze is exceptionally well cast and detailed, showing a young woman caught in a very graceful but dynamic pose, looking down and with one foot extended as though she is about to step into a bath; it's a very lively rendition of Falconet's original marble. The bronze of the woman has a very rich warm patina, while the garment she is in the process of removing and the base have a slightly darker, cooler tone, for a nice contrast. This piece is in excellent condition. There is some dust which could easily be cleaned up, but we have left it mostly as we found it. The patina is in great shape. There are no breaks and no repairs.
