Castro Ventosa, or the Castle of the Winds, is named after the ancient Roman ruins overlooking the village of Valtuille de Abajo in the Bierzo region of northern Spain. The Perez family founded the estate here in 1752, where they have owned and farmed vineyards ever since. This Mencia comes from old vines at high elevation, where the sandy soils and altitude offer a bright, delicate freshness to the wine. Notes of juicy blackberry and raspberry offer good acidity, while a lean gravelly minerality and subtle tannins provide good structure and a refined elegance. Food Ideas: Shrimp & chorizo paella, beef & shishito stir-fry with mushrooms, lamb vindaloo, crispy roast duck with cherry sauce ABV: 13%
