A deep violet-black that takes its name from a pioneering synthetic pigment used in printing and dyeing. In the 1860s Mr. J . Lightfoot brought us a blacker black after studying the oxidation of new compound, aniline. Aniline purple had been accidentally created a few decades earlier while student Willam H. Perkins was trying to synthesize quinine - and that accidental discovery set off a giant Victorian wave of mauve everything. In this rich black yarn, you can catch hints of that sweet Victorian violet shade in the right lighting. Base: Brontë (Yak/Silk DK) 60% Superwash Merino / 20% Silk / 20% Yak. 231 yards per 100 grams. Price listed is per one (1) skein of yarn.
